Interesting books to read..
i've been planning for a while to put up a list here with interesting books, with a short review.
No time now but here's a few important ones, i'll give more info at a later time:
"The New Peoplemaking" by Virginia Satir
"The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins
"Biomimicry" by Janine Benyus
"Cradle to Cradle" by William McDonough & Michael Braungart
and many many more,
the reason i'm putting up this post right now is that PZ got a booklist meme up a day ago or so, and that's a post i'll want to go back to when i'm expanding the series of post about books i'm planning to make here.
Here's PZ's post.
Have fun and read read read!

...from a wonderful movie.
Here's a strange news article..
about a garden gnome that gets stolen, travels all around the world and is then brought back with pictures to prove it..
A cool idea, but certainly not new,
it surprises me the article doesn't mention the movie:
Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain
(imdb, wikipedia (obviously already mentions this news feat))
A wonderful and truly inspiring movie, i'm glad someone did the gnome thing!
Good night!

Newest playlist addition meme: Sungha Jung
I actually discovered his songs a few days before Andy's songs, but somehow Andy got posted first, maybe this kid is technically not as good as Andy, but maybe that's because he's only 11 years young!!
At first this is the song i liked most:
And then he posted this one:
Very nice, and impressive!
And he's got a channel on Youtube ..
www.youtube.com/user/jwcfree
it's just packed with nice songs he plays !!
and some can be downloaded at hisspace:
www.myspace.com/jungsungha

It's easier to be an asshole to words than to people
I've done it, especially when things get a bit emotional, losing touch with reality because of words on a screen and what i made of them in my mind, and i'm sorry!
so as usual, xkcd is right
INTERNET ARGUMENT

Please keep in mind you're dealing with real people.

What does an adversity mean to you ??
Well to Napoleon Hill it means this:
"Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit." – Napoleon Hill (1883-1970)
And if I can give you one advice about your mental attitude, it is to incorporate this advice into your character.
I've been working on it for at least half a year now, it's not easy but holds tremendous power when used!
So in stead of tossing and turning and getting upset about spontaneously waking up at half past 4, when i'm trying t get enough sleep to stay awake during studying, i'm using this time to post this here (and satisfy my evergrowing group of fans ;-)), send a few important emails, and come back here to post at least 1 cool thing!
So dear friends, stay tuned, be delighted, and find the good in every bad!

Happy ending!
May everyone have a happy ending..
Of course the ending preferably later than sooner, the happiness right now, and now, and now, and now, ... every now!
When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice.
– Cherokee Expression

To do - list: walking on fire
some time ago i made a draft post about this,
and tomorrow i'm going to use it as an example in the Physics-class on heat transfer i'll be teaching
Sure makes you want to try it ... no?
But I seriously would really like to try this, so if anyone wants to join me, i'll have some time this summer! If you don't trust it, just come and watch, there will be party-snacks and drinks!

Chaos, the way of the future.
Today I had a very interesting conversation with Robin Rowley,
I was introduced to him through Leen, a friend of mine, as her lecturer at the Plantijn Hogeschool. Some time ago, when i was talking with her and Tom about my plan for my future, she mentioned him as someone who I should talk to, and she was right.
He's an expert on Communications, Organisation Behaviour & HRM, Entrepeneurship, Strategy and Change Management. And this is exactly the field that's been calling to me for almost half a year now, drawing me away from my present career in biology.
He has also written a book, "Organize with chaos", available at Management Books 2000, of which he was so kind to give me a copy of the previous edition, the new one is just out.
A man's mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions. And this hour he gave me today was certainly a mindstretching experience!
I'm kinda very busy finishing this neverending masterthesis so i'm right now not able to do a lot with the new idea's and insights but this will come soon enough!
As a preparation for this conversation i read this introduction on Chaos and Complexity:
http://complexity.orcon.net.nz/index.html
It's by Victor MacGill, a very interesting person who's website i will discuss soon, but this link from his website was too nice to keep from you:

Tired
This morning something (probably myself) woke me at a quarter past 5 and apart from some lingering and turning around, i couldn't sleep anymore so I got up (and posted the previous post among other things)
in the afternoon i slept a few hours because i was just wasted, and now i'm still tired..
Anyway, maybe i should stop whining, bitching and complaining and make some stuff happen!
As Og Mandino says: Those who are weak, wait for opportunities. those who are strong, make them. Opportunities! Your life is full of them.
(i'll post some more thing about Og in the future)
I think i'm going to use this oppotunity of being tired to get some sleep :)
Have a nice day!

what to do with your brand new i-phone ??
why not try and make something tasty out of it?
from the guys/girls at http://www.willitblend.com/, they've blended a few other things, you can go and go check it out, i didn't
personally i think it's one of the more original ways to promote a product :)
most commercials just make me feel .. well .. ashamed for the makers and for those influenced by it, but maybe also for the network stations who ultimately could maintain high standards for commercials ...

This explains a lot

Old forests are cut down and turned into toilet paper ...
... and still all the toilets are always out of paper ...
this and many other sad or silly stuff are things we all complain about sooner or later in this amazing life.
Some of the complaints are absolutely justified and should really be dealt with, but in the mean time, why not make a song about it?
I just love the concept :)
PZ links to this: The Helsinki Complaints Choir
It's not an all to new concept (a few years at least), but it's the first time (that i can remember) that i encoutered something like this.
First i thought that maybe it was a 'normal' song in finnish and that someone had placed clever subtitles underneath it, with a different meaning (who would notice but the Finnians?)
But apparently they really are a 'complaint choir' and there are others:
Birmingham:
Canada:
and even more but you'll have to look for them yourselves
(post them in the commments if you want)

Wanna hit me with something?
if you're anywhere near Antwerp, Belgium, on the first of May 2007,
bring a pillow and you will have your chance, only if you're prepared to except a pillow beating in return of course ;)
a pillow, why?
because there will be a pillowfight
spread the word and see you there
update: ok i should really start spreading the adress of this blog to some friends of mine, not too many (local) readers yet
